19 Nov Celebrating holiday beach vacations, Avila Beach style
Vacationing over the holidays is the best, isn’t it? You may miss a holiday party or cookie swap at home, but holiday beach vacations are so relaxing! Say goodbye to the stress of the holidays and spend this holiday season on Avila Beach.
Here’s how Avila Beach celebrates the holidays so you can have your beach vacation and holiday cheer all wrapped up in one stress-free, tinsel-tinged holiday season!
It’s not Thanksgiving without a Turkey Trot and of course, Avila Beach delivers! Huff it before you stuff it on the Bob Jones Trail. Check-in starts at the Promenade on the corner of Front St. and San Francisco at 8 am. The race, a two-mile walk or five-mile run, begins at 8:30 am. No registration fee, but there is a suggested donation of $20.
Don’t feel like cooking? Head to the Old Custom House. They start serving turkey dinner at 2:30, the last seating is at 5 pm. Their regular menu items will also be available.
Don’t sleep in the day after Thanksgiving; kick off your Christmas season with Avila Beach’s annual Santa’s Doggie Parade! Because nothing beats dogs dressed up for the holidays on a beach.
To get your shopping in during this holiday season, Avila Valley Barn stays open through the end of December with a fully-stocked seasonal gift shop. They also have seasonal produce and baked goods, like homemade pies. Travel tip: show up early on the weekends!
Looking for gifts that are a little more eclectic this year? Head to the Handmade Holiday Market on December 8th to check out arts and crafts from local vendors!
Lastly get into the hyperlocal spirit with a Christmas Pot Luck at the Avila Beach Community Center. There’s no better way to get to know the area than with a little holiday cheer!
New Year’s Eve
Say goodbye to 2018 in style with an epic delicious dinner and champagne at the Gardens of Avila at Sycamore Springs. Call ahead to make your reservations!
Then ring in the New Year overlooking Avila Beach at Mr. Rick’s!
On New Year’s Day, nothing washes away the midnight celebration after-effects like a quick dip. Walk out to the beach to participate in Avila Beach’s annual Polar Bear Plunge!
