Beach Trip Itinerary: Finding the best R&R things to do in Avila Beach

What’s a vacation without some good rest and relaxation? There are about a gazillion things to do in Avila Beach that fit the bill. Here’s your Avila Beach itinerary, rest and relaxation edition.

Day 1: Beach Day

Grab a towel and a book, the sand is waiting. One of the best parts about Avila Beach is that the beach is literally steps from everywhere.

Start by grabbing a quick coffee (and possibly a croissant) at Kraken coffee. Drink it on their patio seating or take it across the street to the beach – either way, you’re listening to the waves! Spend the day enjoying the sand, sun and sea. The most relaxing vacation plans are often no plans at all!

Around lunchtime, grab a bite along Front Street. Whether you want a quick bite or a more substantial sit-down, Front Street has all the options.

After lunch, get cleaned up and don’t forget to call Sycamore Springs to book your spa day for tomorrow! Check out their spa services online. Every spa treatment comes with a soak in one of their relaxing mineral tubs! During high season, you may want to make reservations for spa services more than one day out.

Then, grab a bite to eat at Blue Moon Over Avila for some French-inspired cuisine. We suggest making reservations ahead of time during peak season.

Day 2: Spa Day

Most of your Avila Beach spa activities will revolve around Sycamore Springs. Depending on the time of your appointment, we suggest showing up about a half hour early to stroll around the well-manicured property (connected to a walking trail).  Also, when you arrive, inquire about booking a table at their restaurant, Gardens of Avila, for after your treatment. The food is outstanding and the service is always on point.

Day 3: The Wine Trail

There’s nothing more relaxing than chillaxing with a glass of wine. Avila Beach has several acclaimed wineries that won’t disappoint.

First, head to Kelsey See Canyon Vineyard on See Canyon Road. We suggest this winery first because it requires a drive. (Yep, we’re lookin’ out for ya.) The outdoor seating is picturesque, with roaming peacocks and vineyards lending to the ambiance, and they also have light bites available inside.

Then, head back to Avila Beach proper. We suggest a late lunch/afternoon snack at Custom House (the calamari is amazing – and sized for sharing). Sit outside to enjoy the sea breeze. Then, hit the wine trail again starting one block back on First Street. Sinor La Vallee and Alapay Cellars are two favorites.

Then, meander through Landing Passage to pay a visit to Morovino and Peloton Cellars. Finally, if you’re interested in buying more bottles to bring home, head to Avila Wine and Roasting. The owner conducts tastings on most days and has a wealth of knowledge of wine. This is a great option to bring a bottle (or seven) back home for gifts or to your Air BnB for a nightcap!

Finally, head to Ocean Grill for the freshest seafood in Avila Beach! (Again, we suggest making reservations during high season.)

Day 4: Sail and Brew

For your last day of R&R, it’s time to hit the sea. Book a morning tour with Captain Mark! (We recommend checking availability ahead of time all year long.) His knowledge of the aquatic flora and fauna is unmatched in Avila Beach. Pay attention to wind speeds on the days you travel, if it is too windy to sail, there will not be tours during high winds.

Follow up your tour by checking out some area brews. Head to PierFront Wine and Brew for lunch and a great selection of area beers. Their wine selection is also outstanding if beer ain’t your thang. Then head down the street to Libertine Brewing Company and pucker up! They specialize in sours.

Round out your day with dinner back at Harford Pier at the Olde Port Inn. Their indoor dining with ocean views makes for an awesome dinner watching the sunset.

Avila Beach is the perfect place to unwind, relax and rejuvenate. Take a load off, and come and see us!
